On the one hand, you can't expect developers to just not fix glitches or unintentional skips. Even if it ruins some of the fun of the game for more advanced players, it's still a game that they designed with a certain course of action in mind. Also, developers are probably thinking about how glitches and unintentional skips could have disastrous unforeseen effects on a player's game. Some games have glitches that can softlock or even erase your entire save. One infamous example of this is the original release of Skyward Sword, where a certain late-game glitch would dead-up softlock YOUR ENTIRE SAVE if you just so happened to talk to the wrong NPC at the wrong time, and Nintendo had to release a special Wii channel designed specifically to fix player saves affected by this glitch; otherwise, if you didn't have a backup save file ready, you would have to restart YOUR WHOLE PLAYTHROUGH FROM SCRATCH. It is unlikely that any glitch discussed in this video would ever lead to something as catastrophic as that; nonetheless, stranger things have happened. At the very least, it makes it understandable why Nintendo is so adamant about removing any and all glitches found in a game. They kind of have a stressful history with glitches. On the other hand, this is Metroid we're talking about. This is a series that has historically rewarded players for completing the game as fast as possible, and is renowned for things like sequence breaks. Occasionally, it even has hidden easter eggs that you will never see unless you sequence break. Fusion and in Dread are both examples of this. And many games in the world have had glitches for years without any truly negative effects on a player's game. If a glitch or skip has proven to be harmless, it seems unnecessary to simply remove it from a game whose gameplay is actually augmented by that very same glitch or skip. I understand developers wanting to present their game as something that is solid, polished, and without any bugs whatsoever; however, it seems contradictory to the spirit of Metroid to remove things that directly enhance the experiences of players who do the very thing that Metroid encourages you to do most--complete the game as fast as you possibly can, with or without a 100% completion rate.

Honestly I think speed running and sequence breaks adds another layer to an already great game if the sequence breaks and other glitches are well hidden and hard to pull off making it so casual players likely wouldn’t know about them unless they researched or if they did know it wouldn’t hurt the game very much. Why arbitrarily limit the communities ability to enjoy the game and show that love even if it means breaking a large part of the game?

Out-of-bounds stuff is pretty lame and lifeless, but why should they waste their time when they could actually be MAKING things? Patching out speedrunning adds literally no value.

My favorite example of a low% run getting longer is in hollow knight, where originally the low percent run required you to grind the same group of enemies for 40+ hours, and then someone discovered a way to beat the game with less completion percentage by grinding a different enemy and the run got even longer. A youtuber named Skurry made videos about it, if you're curious
